Colleges must adapt to technological advances and student demand -- timesunion.com "The coincidence of a revolution in information technology, growing economic demands for knowledge professionals and the pressure on public universities to become financially self-sufficient is altering the face of higher education as we know it. While some higher education institutions use turnover at the top to make short-term adjustments, their long-term health will more likely depend on their ability to come to terms with long-term trends that are slowly but surely changing the American higher education landscape: Higher education's center of gravity is shifting from liberal arts undergraduate education to returning adult professional education. Declining birth rates, increasing life expectancy and increased need for knowledge updates mean that more adults will return for more academic "refueling stops'' over a longer life span."
